Michigan forwards Jayden Perron and Michael Hage swept the top two spots in the Big Ten’s weekly honors, the school announced Monday, Oct. 6, after each put up seven points in the Wolverines’ season-opening sweep of Bowling Green.
Perron was named the conference’s First Star of the Week with three goals and four assists. He had a goal and two assists in Michigan’s 7-2 home win on Friday, Oct. 2, then posted the first four-point game of his career in Saturday’s 4-3 comeback win at Bowling Green, including the game-winning goal midway through the third period.
Hage earned Second Star honors with two goals and five assists. He scored the game-winner and added two assists in Friday’s opener, then had a point on all four Michigan goals on Saturday. He also won 63.4 percent of his faceoffs over the weekend.
The two finished the opening weekend tied for the national scoring lead. Saturday’s comeback also gave head coach Brandon Naurato the 100th win of his career.
Michigan, picked first in the Big Ten preseason poll, is ranked No. 2 in both the USCHO and USA Hockey polls released Oct. 5. The Wolverines (2-0-0) host Alaska Anchorage at Yost Ice Arena on Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10, with both games at 7 p.m.
