Mitten Hockey aims to be fast, accurate, and clear about what is confirmed and what is not. These are the rules every story follows.

Sourcing and fact-checking

  • Every story is written in our own words, drawn from more than one source when possible.
  • Scores, stats, names, and transactions are checked against official team, league, or school sites before a story is published.
  • Each story ends with links to its sources, so you can always read the original reporting.

Rumors and reports

  • We cover credible reports from established journalists and outlets, but only when they are clearly labeled. These stories start with “Report:” and are tagged Rumors and Reports.
  • A report is not treated as fact until a team, league, school, or player confirms it.
  • When a report is confirmed or denied, we publish a follow-up that links back to the original story.

Opinions and comments

When a player, coach, executive, or owner shares an opinion, we present it as their view, not as fact, and tag the story In Their Words. Quotes are never invented or altered.

Spoiler-free game coverage

Recap headlines, excerpts, and search descriptions never include the score or the result, and neither do our posts on X sharing a recap, so you can catch up on a game you recorded. The result appears only inside the story.

Images

Stories use Mitten Hockey’s own team-color story cards or photos taken by Mitten Hockey. We don’t use stock photos, team logos, or other outlets’ photos.

How stories are made

Mitten Hockey is edited by Shaun Giddings. Stories and our posts on X are researched, written, and published with the help of AI tools that follow these standards. The editor reviews published coverage regularly, and a weekly quality check looks for factual errors, missing details, broken source links, and reports that need a follow-up.

Corrections

  • When we get a fact wrong, we fix it as quickly as we can and add a note at the end of the story: “Correction (date): This story originally said… It has been corrected.”
  • Spelling, grammar, and formatting fixes that don’t change the meaning are made without a note.
  • If a story is significantly wrong, we update it with an editor’s note at the top explaining what changed.
