Mitten Hockey (mittenhockey.net) is an independent Michigan hockey news site edited by Shaun Giddings. This page explains what information we collect when you visit, subscribe, comment, or contact us, and how we use it. We keep it simple: we only collect what we need to run the site, and we never sell your information.
Who hosts the site
Mitten Hockey runs on WordPress.com, a service of Automattic Inc. Automattic hosts the site, sends our email newsletters, and provides site statistics and spam protection. Information you share on this site is processed by Automattic on our behalf, as described in the Automattic Privacy Policy.
Information we collect
- Email subscriptions: If you subscribe to the Daily Digest or Weekly Roundup, we collect your email address so we can send them. Every email includes a link to unsubscribe or change how often you hear from us.
- Comments: If you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address, and website you enter, along with your IP address and browser information to help detect spam. Your email address is never shown publicly. Comments are reviewed before they appear.
- Contact form: If you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, and message so we can reply.
- Site statistics: WordPress.com collects basic, aggregated visit information, such as which pages are viewed, the referring site, and approximate location by country, to help us understand what readers find useful.
Cookies
WordPress.com uses cookies to keep the site working, remember comment details if you choose, and measure site traffic. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, though some features (like remembering your comment details) may not.
How we use your information
We use your information only to send the emails you asked for, publish and moderate comments, answer your messages, protect the site from spam and abuse, and understand how the site is used. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Links and embedded content
Our stories link to team, league, school, and news websites, and we share stories on X at @MittenHky. Those sites and services have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information.
How long we keep it
Subscriber email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Comments and their details are kept as long as the comment stays on the site. Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to respond.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. To ask us to see, correct, or delete information we have about you, such as a comment, use the contact form and we will take care of it.
Children
Mitten Hockey is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has shared information with us, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
