PWHL Detroit announced a 28-player roster on Wednesday, Oct. 7, for its first training camp, which opens Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Belfor Training Center in Detroit. The expansion club, which still competes without a permanent team name, will play its inaugural season in 2026-27.

The camp roster includes 16 forwards, nine defenders, and three goaltenders. According to the team, 18 are signed players, four are unsigned draft prospects, and six are training camp invitees.

Familiar names up front and on the blue line

The forward group is led by Hilary Knight, whom Detroit acquired from PWHL Las Vegas in a sign-and-trade and signed to an extension through 2028-29. Other forwards include Hannah Bilka, Jesse Compher, Britta Curl-Salemme, Daryl Watts, and Brighton native Shiann Darkangelo.

On defense, the roster includes Cayla Barnes, Jessica Adolfsson, Nina Jobst-Smith, Stephanie Markowski, and Plymouth native Mellissa Channell-Watkins. Andrea Brändli, Michelle Pasiechnyk, and Alice Philbert are the three goaltenders in camp.

General manager Manon Rhéaume said in the team’s release that camp will be the staff’s first chance to see the full group together on the ice. Josh Sciba is the head coach.

Preseason and opening dates

Detroit will play two preseason scrimmages at Morgan Firestone Arena in Hamilton, Ontario: against the Ottawa Charge on Monday, Nov. 23, and against PWHL Hamilton on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Both start at 1:30 p.m. ET.

The regular season opens Sunday, Dec. 6, at PWHL Las Vegas. Detroit’s first home game is Saturday, Dec. 12, at noon against the New York Sirens at Little Caesars Arena. Single-game tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 9, at 10 a.m. ET, according to the team’s schedule release.
