The Detroit Red Wings host the Seattle Kraken on Friday, Oct. 9, at Little Caesars Arena, looking to build on their first win of the season. Puck drop is 7 p.m. The game airs locally on DSN and streams on ESPN+.
Detroit is 1-2-0 after a 5-3 home win over Ottawa on Tuesday, the night Dylan Larkin returned to the lineup and scored. Alex DeBrincat had two goals and an assist against the Senators, a response to being moved down the lineup earlier in the week. Seattle comes in at 2-2-0 after a 6-2 loss to Vegas on Tuesday.
DeBrincat on the doorstep
DeBrincat enters with 296 goals and 599 points in 699 NHL games. One more point makes him the fourth forward from the 2016 draft class to reach 600, and four more goals would make the Farmington Hills native the fourth Michigan-born player with 300 in the NHL, Detroit Hockey Now noted. The milestone week also includes news that the Erie Otters will retire his No. 12 in February.
Lineup and injuries
The Red Wings placed forward J.T. Compher on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury, backdated to Oct. 4, and activated defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker (upper body), who could make his season debut. Coach Todd McLellan said Thursday that Compher remains day-to-day but isn’t expected to play this weekend. Forward Marco Kasper is also on injured reserve.
Seattle is without defenseman Ryan Lindgren, who went on injured reserve with an upper-body injury after getting hurt against Vegas and is expected to miss four to six weeks.
In goal
John Gibson (1-2-0, 2.39 goals-against average) is expected to make his fourth straight start for Detroit. McLellan said Daniil Tarasov will make his Red Wings debut Saturday in the second half of the back-to-back, the road opener in Montreal. Joey Daccord (2-1-0, .911 save percentage) has carried the load for Seattle.
Storylines
Scoring has been the issue for Detroit, which averages 2.33 goals per game, while Seattle has scored 3.75 per game. The Red Wings’ power play clicked against Ottawa, with Viktor Arvidsson scoring on the man advantage, and Larkin’s return gives McLellan a more settled top six. Off the ice, questions about Larkin’s future and unsigned defenseman Simon Edvinsson continue to hang over the team. Detroit won the last meeting, 4-3, on Dec. 6, 2025.
