The Boston Bruins are among at least 10 teams that have checked in with the Detroit Red Wings about unsigned defenseman Simon Edvinsson, TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reported Thursday. The report is unconfirmed, and the Red Wings have not commented on any trade interest in the 23-year-old restricted free agent.

According to the report, Detroit still wants to sign Edvinsson to a new contract despite the outside calls, but the two sides remain separated by what LeBrun called a sizeable gap on salary. Detroit Sports Nation, summarizing LeBrun’s update, added that the Red Wings have discussed deals of several lengths and that a trade becomes more realistic the longer the standoff lasts.

Mitten Hockey reported on Oct. 7 that Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman had said Edvinsson would prefer a trade out of Detroit. LeBrun’s update adds a count of interested teams and names one of them.

Edvinsson attended training camp without a contract, then returned to Sweden. Swedish reporter Andreas Johnsson has reported that he is skating with Frolunda HC of the SHL while talks continue.

Detroit drafted Edvinsson sixth overall in 2021. The 6-foot-6, 222-pound defenseman had nine goals and 25 points in 72 games last season while averaging a career-high 22:21 of ice time, and he has 19 goals and 60 points in 175 NHL games, all with the Red Wings.

The Edvinsson situation is one of two major player issues facing interim general manager Shawn Horcoff, who is also handling Dylan Larkin’s trade request. Larkin returned to the lineup Tuesday and scored in Detroit’s 5-3 win over Ottawa. The Red Wings host the Seattle Kraken on Friday night.
