No. 2 Michigan routed Alaska Anchorage 10-1 on Friday, Oct. 9, at Yost Ice Arena, getting goals from eight players to improve to 3-0-0. The Seawolves, making their first trip to Ann Arbor since 1990, fell to 0-3-0.

Scoring

Cole McKinney scored 23 seconds into the game, and after Anchorage tied it at 4:11, freshman Jack Nesbitt and Garrett Schifsky put Michigan ahead 3-1 by the first intermission. Schifsky’s goal came shorthanded on his own rebound, the eighth shorthanded goal of his career. Will Horcoff (his 30th career goal) and Nick Moldenhauer scored in the second period.

The Wolverines added five in the third. Jayden Perron scored at 8:03 to extend his point streak to nine games, McKinney added his second about 33 seconds later, Drew Schock scored on the power play, Nesbitt scored again from the doorstep, and Dakoda Rhéaume-Mullen closed it out with 31.7 seconds left.

McKinney (two goals, two assists) and Moldenhauer (one goal, three assists) each finished with a career-high four points. Landon DuPont and Malcolm Spence had two assists apiece, and Michael Hage assisted on Horcoff’s goal. Hage and Perron are tied for the national scoring lead.

In goal and by the numbers

Jack Ivankovic made 21 saves, including a stop on a shorthanded breakaway, for his 28th career win. Michigan outshot Anchorage 47-22, scored once on the power play and once shorthanded, and held the Seawolves without a power-play goal.

The teams met again Saturday night at Yost for Michigan’s Block Out Cancer game. Michigan then visits Denver Oct. 16-17.
