No. 15 Colorado College beat the U.S. National Under-18 Team 4-1 in an exhibition on Friday, Oct. 9, at Ed Robson Arena in Colorado Springs. Goalie Eli Winters made 40 saves for Team USA, and Rocco Pelosi scored late in the third period to end Jackson Unger’s shutout bid.
How it happened
Klavs Veinbergs one-timed a centering pass from Wilson Björck past Winters with 4:15 left in the first period, and Tomas Mrsic doubled the lead in the third, from Connor Hvidston. Mrsic and Veinbergs each added an empty-net goal in the final minutes, and Pelosi scored for Team USA with 2:32 remaining.
Unger made 19 saves for the Tigers, who came in off a home sweep of No. 10 UMass. Mrsic led all players with seven shots. Neither team scored on the power play, with each going 0-for-2.
What’s next
The U18s stayed in Colorado for a Saturday exhibition at No. 1 Denver’s Magness Arena, where the Pioneers are 4-0 all-time against the NTDP. Before this weekend, the U18 team was 2-6 overall, with Finn Sears leading the team with 10 points and Nolan Fitzhenry next with nine.
