No. 1 Denver beat the U.S. National Under-18 Team 7-1 in an exhibition on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Magness Arena, a night after the NTDP’s U18s played at Colorado College. Brock Stevenson scored the Americans’ only goal, and goaltender Nate Chizik made 35 saves as Denver outshot the U18s 42-17.

Denver struck first when Kieran Cebrian scored at 10:51 of the first period, with Daxon Rudolph assisting. Stevenson answered at 18:18, carrying the puck in on a rush and beating Tyler Krivtsov with a wrist shot from the left point to send the teams to intermission tied 1-1.

The Pioneers took over from there. Jack Pridham scored 16 seconds into the second period, and Sam Harris scored twice, at 6:00 and with 15 seconds left in the frame. Kristian Epperson, an NTDP alumnus, scored 51 seconds into the third, Eric Jamieson added a one-timer at 7:41, and Pridham closed the scoring with his second goal at 18:18.

Goalies and special teams

Chizik played the full 60 minutes for the U18s. Krivtsov made 15 saves over the first 51:10 for Denver before Paxton Geisel finished the game and stopped the only shot he faced. The U18s went 0-for-2 on the power play, and Denver had no power-play chances.

Notes

It was the NTDP’s first visit to Magness Arena since Oct. 7, 2011, and Denver is now 5-0 all-time in exhibitions against the program. Denver’s roster includes three NTDP alumni, among them Epperson and Brendan McMorrow. The U18s are in the middle of their annual college schedule, which this season has already included Notre Dame, Boston College, and Colorado College.
