The Toledo Walleye beat the Kalamazoo Wings 3-1 in a preseason game on Friday, Oct. 9, at Huntington Center. Goalie Carter Gylander, who re-signed with the Red Wings on a one-year, two-way contract in July, made 18 saves on 19 shots.
Scoring
After a scoreless first period, Quinn Preston opened the scoring at 7:21 of the second, from Tanner Dickinson and Ben Schoen. Kaden Bohlsen made it 2-0 at 13:21, with Dickinson and Preston assisting. Kalamazoo’s Ryan Cox scored 47 seconds into the third, from Zach Urdahl, before Garrett Van Wyhe restored the two-goal lead at 11:55, with Jack Duff and Campbell Cichosz drawing assists.
Goalies
Toledo outshot Kalamazoo 24-19. Aku Koskenvuo stopped 17 of 19 shots for the K-Wings, and Hunter Vorva made four saves on five shots in relief.
What’s next
The teams met again Saturday night at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo, which the K-Wings billed as their final preseason game. Toledo’s next scheduled game after that is at Fort Wayne on Saturday, Oct. 17.
