Braidy Wassilyn has scored in every game of his Saginaw Spirit career, and he gets a chance to stretch that run to eight on Monday afternoon when the Spirit visit the Windsor Spitfires for a 2:05 p.m. Canadian Thanksgiving matinee at the WFCU Centre.
Wassilyn scored twice in Saturday’s 4-2 home win over the Kitchener Rangers, giving him a goal in seven straight games to open his time in Saginaw. That is the longest such streak to start a Spirit career, passing the six-game mark set by Igor Chernyshov. His first goal Saturday came on a 5-on-3 power play from the faceoff dot, and his second, early in the second period, held up as the winner.
A rematch with a score to settle
Monday is the second meeting of the season between the West Division neighbors. Windsor won the first one 6-3 at Saginaw on Sept. 26. The Spitfires are coming off a home loss to the Oshawa Generals on Saturday, and Monday’s game opens a stretch of three straight at the WFCU Centre, with the Sudbury Wolves and Owen Sound Attack visiting later this week.
Saginaw’s supporting cast was busy Saturday too. Dima Zhilkin, a top prospect for the 2027 NHL Draft, had two assists and an empty-net goal, Tyler Martyniuk added two assists, and Jacob Cloutier’s assist on Brody Pepoy’s goal was the 100th point of his OHL career. Brady Knowling made 27 saves in his third straight start, so his workload is worth watching on the second game in three days.
Schedule and how to follow
Puck drop is 2:05 p.m. Eastern at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario. Streaming and radio details are on the Spirit’s website. After Monday, Saginaw has a four-day break before a home-and-home with the Sarnia Sting on Oct. 16-17, followed by a home game against the Owen Sound Attack on Oct. 18.
