Grand Rapids Griffins captain Dominik Shine scored the 100th goal of his professional career on Sunday, Oct. 11, finishing off a third-period power play against the Chicago Wolves at Van Andel Arena.

The milestone came at 5:20 of the third period, when Shine redirected a Carter Bear pass in front of the net, with Wilmer Skoog picking up the second assist. It was the final goal of a 5-1 Griffins win that was otherwise defined by Jesse Kiiskinen’s hat trick, the first regular-season hat trick by a Griffins rookie since 2013.

Shine, 33, grew up in Pinckney and has spent nearly a decade in the Red Wings organization, most of it in Grand Rapids, where he wears the captain’s “C.” He made his NHL debut with Detroit about two years ago and has become one of the AHL club’s veteran anchors as the roster turns over to a new wave of Red Wings prospects, including Bear, Kiiskinen, and Shai Buium.

After the win, Shine pointed to the young team’s response on the third game of a three-in-three weekend, saying “you can make a career by being good on Sunday.”

The Griffins are 3-1-1 and return to action this weekend with a home-and-home set against the Rockford IceHogs, hosting Rockford at Van Andel Arena on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 4 p.m.
