The Grand Rapids Griffins reassigned forward Tag Bertuzzi to the Toledo Walleye on Friday, sending the 25-year-old back to Detroit’s ECHL affiliate one day before the Walleye open their 2026-27 season.

The move is the latest in a busy shuttle between the two clubs for Bertuzzi this fall. Grand Rapids recalled him along with Nolan Moyle on Sept. 25, sent both to Toledo on Sept. 28, and brought them back two days later. Bertuzzi then made his Griffins debut on Oct. 10 at Milwaukee. The team did not give a reason for Friday’s move, and Moyle was not part of it.

A proven ECHL scorer

A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Bertuzzi is entering his sixth pro season. He has been a steady producer at the ECHL level, with 130 points (62 goals, 68 assists) in 170 regular-season games since 2022-23. His best year came in 2022-23, when he set career highs with 24 goals and 52 points in 64 games.

Last season he split time between the ECHL’s Adirondack Thunder, where he scored 16 goals and 31 points in 38 games, and 14 games with the AHL’s Utica Comets. His AHL résumé covers 31 games with Charlotte, Hartford, Belleville, Utica, and Grand Rapids, with one assist.

What’s next

Bertuzzi joins a Toledo team that set its 27-player opening roster this week and added veteran AHL scorer Chris Terry. The Walleye open the season Saturday at 7:35 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets at Memorial Coliseum. The Griffins are also in action Saturday, hosting the Rockford IceHogs at 8 p.m.
