Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 30 saves, and No. 14 Michigan Tech blanked Alaska 3-0 on Friday night at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton. Matthew Van Blaricom, Conner Roulette, and Tyler Miller scored one goal apiece as the Huskies improved to 4-1-0 before a crowd of 3,358. Alaska fell to 1-4-0.
How the goals came
Van Blaricom opened the scoring at 13:17 of the first period, his team-leading fourth goal of the season, with Giovanni Morneau and Tom Leppa assisting. Roulette doubled the lead in the second for his second of the season, from Kalem Parker and Isaac Gordon. That goal came right after the Huskies killed off a five-minute major.
Miller added insurance at 8:02 of the third, his first goal of the season. Freshman Morgan Brady picked up an assist in his first NCAA game, and Noah Reinhart had the other.
In goal
Bartoszkiewicz, who has started all five games, stopped 11 shots in the first, eight in the second, and 11 in the third for his first shutout of the season and the fifth of his career. Alaska’s Tyler Shea was strong at the other end with 36 saves as Tech outshot the Nanooks 39-30. Neither team scored on the power play; each went 0-for-2.
Head coach Bill Muckalt singled out the penalty kill, telling the athletics department “the penalty kill was big for us tonight—especially on the major.” He also credited Shea’s play and said the Huskies need a sharper start and better puck management on Saturday.
Hall of Fame weekend
Colin Murphy, Darcy Way, and Wayne Weller were inducted into the Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Fame on Friday evening at the Memorial Union Building. The 2026 class will be introduced on the ice during the first intermission Saturday.
What’s next
The teams meet again Saturday at 6:07 p.m. in the Huskies’ final non-conference series of the season, on Mix 93.5 WKMJ.
