Michigan forwards Michael Hage and Jayden Perron were named Thursday to the U.S. Collegiate Selects roster for the 2026 Spengler Cup, the invitational tournament held between Christmas and New Year’s in Davos, Switzerland. They were part of a second group of five players announced by College Hockey Inc., which brings the roster to 11.

The other additions were Quinnipiac defenseman Elliott Groenewold, Minnesota Duluth forward Zam Plante, and Minnesota captain Brodie Ziemer. They join the first six players named on Oct. 1, a group that included Red Wings prospect Max Plante of Minnesota Duluth. The final roster will have 25 players from all six Division I conferences.

Two of the nation’s hottest starts

Both Wolverines have opened the season on a tear. Perron, a Carolina Hurricanes draft pick, leads the country with seven goals and 13 points through Michigan’s first four games. Hage, a first-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens, has three goals and nine assists for 12 points and a plus-10 rating in that span. Hage, 20, is in his third season at Michigan after choosing to return to Ann Arbor rather than sign with Montreal.

The tournament

The Spengler Cup, first played in 1923, is the oldest invitational tournament in hockey and features six teams from Europe and North America. This is the second time a team of NCAA players has been assembled for it; the U.S. Collegiate Selects finished as runner-up in 2025. New Hampshire’s Mike Souza is the head coach, with Cornell’s Casey Jones and Minnesota Duluth’s Scott Sandelin as assistants. The Selects open on Saturday, Dec. 26, against Frölunda HC of Sweden, then face host HC Davos on Dec. 27 or 28.

Hage and Perron are in Colorado this weekend, where No. 2 Michigan visits No. 1 Denver on Friday and Saturday in a rematch of last spring’s Frozen Four. Mitten Hockey’s series preview has more.
