The Detroit Red Wings are asking for three or four pieces in any trade of center Dylan Larkin, including two high-end prospects, TSN’s Darren Dreger reported Thursday on the network’s Early Trading segment, as relayed by The Hockey News. The report is unconfirmed. The Red Wings have not commented on their asking price, and no trade is known to be close.

According to the report, Detroit wants two “A-quality” prospects, a first-round pick, and an NHL forward who fits in a team’s top nine. That last piece is a shift from earlier reporting, which had the Red Wings looking for a top-six forward in return. A lower bar there could widen the list of teams able to meet the price, though the prospect requirement would still rule out clubs with thinner pipelines.

Where things stand

Larkin asked to be traded during the offseason, and the request has not been granted. He missed training camp, the preseason, and the first two regular-season games before returning Oct. 6 against Ottawa, and he has continued to play while the situation plays out. Mitten Hockey covered his reaction to Montreal’s “We want Larkin” chants last weekend.

The 30-year-old is in the fourth season of an eight-year, $69.6 million contract that carries an $8.7 million cap hit through 2030-31. PuckPedia lists a full no-trade clause through 2027-28, so Larkin would have a say in any destination.

The Larkin talk is one of two roster standoffs hanging over interim general manager Shawn Horcoff. Unsigned defenseman Simon Edvinsson remains on the injured non-roster list amid his contract dispute, and Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said on a podcast Thursday that Edvinsson had not changed his mind about his situation, The Hockey News reported. Horcoff said this week that Detroit has no interest in trading Edvinsson.

The Red Wings are 2-3-2 and host the San Jose Sharks on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena.
