Sixth-ranked Western Michigan visits Notre Dame on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend, Indiana, to finish a non-conference home-and-home series. The game streams on Peacock, with radio on the Bronco Media Network.
Where things stand
The Broncos are 3-0-0 after a 6-1 win over the Fighting Irish on Friday at Lawson Ice Arena, where they scored twice in each period, outshot Notre Dame 51-20, and went 3-for-5 on the power play. Notre Dame is 2-1-0.
Defenseman Joona Väisänen leads the way after a three-assist night, and Cole Spicer, Zaccharya Wisdom, and Zach Nehring each had two points Friday. Adam Benák scored his first college goal on the power play. Quentin Miller made 19 saves in goal.
Keys for Saturday
Notre Dame goaltender Nicholas Kempf faced 51 shots on Friday and made 45 saves, and the Irish will need to cut down that volume at home. Discipline is another storyline: Notre Dame took five penalties in the third period alone Friday, and Western Michigan’s power play made it pay.
The weekend is part of a busy October for the Broncos, who are playing their final season at Lawson Ice Arena.
