Eddie Genborg picked a fitting night to fill the score sheet. The Red Wings prospect, a left wing Detroit drafted in the second round (44th overall) in 2025 and signed to an entry-level contract in March, scored the game-winning goal and assisted on Timrå IK’s other two in a 3-0 win over Björklöven on Saturday, according to Detroit Hockey Now. It came on the same night Timrå retired former Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg’s No. 20.

The 19-year-old Genborg is spending 2026-27 with Timrå in the SHL, the club where Zetterberg played before joining Detroit. Zetterberg now works in Timrå’s front office and serves as an informal adviser to the Red Wings, giving the Swedish club a direct line to Detroit as Genborg develops there.

A night for No. 20

Timrå raised Zetterberg’s number to the rafters at SCA Arena before puck drop, a ceremony NHL.com previewed last week. Former Red Wings teammates Niklas Kronwall and Johan Franzen were in the building, and Zetterberg used his speech to thank his parents, his sister, his wife, Emma, and their son, Love.

Not everyone in the arena joined the tribute. Visiting Björklöven supporters booed and chanted through the ceremony, drawing criticism from Staffan Kronwall, Niklas’ brother, who was working the game for Sweden’s TV4. “Shame on those who sang during his speech,” Kronwall said on the broadcast, per Detroit Hockey Now. Björklöven coach Magnus Bogren also said his club’s fans should have respected the moment.

Zetterberg spent his entire NHL career with Detroit, winning the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2008 and later serving as the team’s captain.

Where Genborg fits

Genborg, a native of Trollhättan, Sweden, signed a three-year entry-level deal with a $997,500 cap hit that runs through 2028-29. He has yet to play an NHL game and remains with Timrå for this season.
