Pitters keeps NMU’s rookie run going
Pitters, from Chesterfield, had a goal and three assists as Northern Michigan won 5-1 on Friday and lost 2-1 in overtime on Saturday at the Berry Events Center in Marquette. The Mining Journal reported that his nine shots and plus-4 rating led all conference rookies for the weekend, and that he won 12 of 21 faceoffs while centering a third line with Michael Burchill and Nik Gudmundson.
It is the second time in two home weekends that a Wildcat has won the rookie award, after Coster Dunn earned it following NMU’s series with Miami. Pitters was a scratch on opening weekend before making his college debut against Michigan State. “Owen has earned his opportunity through his hard work in practice,” coach Dave Shyiak told the paper.
Pitters has four points in four games. Northern Michigan, 2-4, is off this weekend and opens CCHA play Oct. 30-31 at Augustana in Sioux Falls, S.D. Read the Northern Michigan series wrap from the Stonehill weekend.
