PWHL Detroit forward Daryl Watts is one of 25 players Hockey Canada named Monday to its roster for the 2026 IIHF Women’s World Championship, which runs Nov. 6-16 in Herning and Esbjerg, Denmark. Watts, who signed a four-year contract in early June as one of the expansion team’s first signings, is the only player from Detroit’s training camp roster on Canada’s team.

Watts is one of 13 players on the roster who won Olympic silver with Canada at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games. The team has three goaltenders, eight defenders, and 14 forwards, and seven players will make their World Championship debuts. Kori Cheverie is the head coach and Danièle Sauvageau is the general manager.

Detroit has a second link to the Canadian team: Manon Rhéaume, PWHL Detroit’s inaugural general manager, is an assistant general manager on Canada’s management staff.

Two games against the U.S., one in Plymouth

Before leaving for Denmark, Canada plays two pre-tournament games against the United States, both at 7 p.m. Eastern: Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario, and Friday, Oct. 30, at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth.

The Plymouth game could put Watts on the ice against several of her new Detroit teammates. Hilary Knight, Hannah Bilka, Jesse Compher, Britta Curl-Salemme, and Cayla Barnes are among the 31 players invited to the U.S. team’s final pre-Worlds camp, which opens Oct. 23 in Plymouth, as Mitten Hockey reported Monday. USA Hockey has not yet named its World Championship roster.

Canada opens the tournament Nov. 6 against Sweden at 9 a.m. Eastern. Its preliminary-round group also includes Finland, Japan, and host Denmark.

The timing works for Detroit. The World Championship final is two days before PWHL training camps open on Nov. 18, and PWHL Detroit plays its first home game on Dec. 12 at Little Caesars Arena.
