The Detroit Red Wings open a Western road trip Tuesday night against the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena. Puck drop is 9:40 p.m. ET, with TV on Detroit SportsNet. Detroit (3-3-2) has earned at least a point in four straight games and won its last two. Seattle (5-3-1) has lost two in a row.
It’s a rematch of an Oct. 9 game at Little Caesars Arena that got away from Detroit. The Red Wings carried the first period and outshot Seattle, and William Wallinder scored early in the second. Then the Kraken scored three goals in 3:05 on the way to a 6-3 win, with Philipp Grubauer stopping 37 of 40 shots. Andrew Copp told The Hockey News the Red Wings played well for about 45 minutes but had “a horrible 15 minutes in the middle of the game.” Viktor Arvidsson said Detroit is at its best when it piles up shots and forechecks hard, and that it can get more second chances around the net.
Detroit comes in off a 4-3 shootout win over San Jose on Saturday. Alex DeBrincat tied that game with 1:33 left in regulation and enters Tuesday one goal shy of 300 for his career. He leads the team with nine points (five goals, four assists) in eight games. Lucas Raymond scored the only goal of the shootout.
Seattle has one of the league’s most productive offenses, averaging 3.78 goals per game, but is allowing 3.44. Kaapo Kakko, Jared McCann, and Chandler Stephenson each have eight points. The Kraken’s last game was an 8-3 loss at Florida on Saturday, which closed a four-game road trip.
Injuries: Detroit remains without Marco Kasper (upper body), J.T. Compher, and Mason Appleton. Jacob Bernard-Docker was assigned to Grand Rapids on Sunday after clearing waivers. Seattle is missing Ryan Lindgren (upper body), Jake O’Brien (lower body), and Jacob Melanson (chest), and Brandon Montour is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Goalies: Neither team had announced a starter as of Tuesday morning. Daniil Tarasov is 1-0-1 with a 0.79 goals-against average, while John Gibson stopped 31 shots in regulation and overtime and all three shootout attempts against San Jose. Seattle’s options are Grubauer and Joey Daccord.
Next: The trip continues Thursday at Vancouver and Saturday at Calgary, both at 10 p.m. ET.
