The Chicago Steel shut out the Muskegon Lumberjacks 5-0 on Friday, Oct. 9, at USG Arena in Chicago, as goalie Stepan Houdek stopped all 32 shots he faced. Jason Millett scored twice for the Steel. The Lumberjacks fell to 3-3-0-1.

Scoring

Tracy scored unassisted at 2:19 of the first period, and Millett made it 2-0 on the power play at 7:17. Millett added his second at 9:19 of the second, and Svrcek scored at 15:39 for a 4-0 lead after two. Vieau closed the scoring at 9:00 of the third.

Goalies and numbers

Muskegon outshot Chicago 32-21, including 12-2 in the third period, but could not beat Houdek. Oscar Westman made 14 saves on 18 shots before Samuel Doyon-Cataquiz took over for the final 24 minutes and allowed one goal on three shots. Chicago’s only power-play goal came on Millett’s first-period tally; Muskegon took three first-period minors. Attendance was 733.

What’s next

The Lumberjacks stayed in Chicago for a rematch Saturday night, then return home to Trinity Health Arena for two games next weekend.
