The Chicago Steel beat the Muskegon Lumberjacks 5-4 on Saturday, Oct. 10, in Chicago, scoring four times in the second period to erase an early Muskegon lead. M.J. Campbell scored the winner at 6:45 of the third period. Muskegon fell to 3-4-0-1, and Chicago improved to 4-1-1-0.
Scoring
Anthony Thomas-Maroon opened the scoring at 6:35 of the first period, pushing in a rebound after deflecting Teddy Lechner’s shot, for his second goal of the season. Drew Fox made it 2-0 on the power play at 12:46 with his third, after the puck bounced to him off a defender.
Chicago took over in the second. Matyas Svrcek scored at 5:20, Patrick Tolan at 9:24, Nolan Shorter at 13:12, and Joe Erickson at 14:53. Maxim Šimko answered 20 seconds after Erickson’s goal, from Billy MacAsusland and Louis Jonerheim, to make it 4-3 after two. Gustas Zemaitis tied it 36 seconds into the third with his first goal of the season, set up by Zaac Charbonneau, before Campbell scored off a Muskegon turnover deep in its own zone.
In goal and by the numbers
Samuel Doyon-Cataquiz made 26 saves on 31 shots for Muskegon and is 1-2-0-1. Chicago starter Stepan Houdek, who shut out the Lumberjacks on Friday, left the game injured, and Alex Wang made 12 saves on 13 shots in relief for his first USHL win. Muskegon outshot Chicago 35-31 and went 1-for-3 on the power play; the Steel had no power-play chances.

The Lumberjacks return home to host the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16-17, at Trinity Health Arena, with Friday’s puck drop at 7:10 p.m.
