Lake Superior State split its season-opening series at Lindenwood, losing 7-4 on Thursday, Oct. 8, and winning 4-3 on Friday, Oct. 9, at Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri. The Lakers left Missouri at 1-1-0.

Charles Savoie was the Lakers’ best player all weekend, with three goals and two assists. He scored twice in the opener and had a goal and two assists Friday. Calem Mangone scored twice Friday, and Casper Nassen and Cooper Foster each had a hand in both games, with Foster setting up three goals in the win.

The Lakers’ goaltenders were under siege. Lindenwood outshot Lake Superior State 98-56 over the two games. Andrew Oke made 39 saves Thursday, when the Lions scored four unanswered third-period goals, including two into an empty net, to overturn a 4-3 deficit. Anders Miller started Friday and made 49 saves, and this time the Lakers protected a late lead, holding Lindenwood scoreless after Adam Raesler’s goal at 8:14 of the third.

Special teams were a strength in both games: the Lakers scored on the power play each night, going 2-for-5 combined, and killed all eight Lindenwood chances.
