No. 14 Michigan Tech swept Alaska at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena, winning 3-0 on Friday and 4-2 on Saturday to close its non-conference schedule at 5-1-0. The Nanooks fell to 1-5-0. The weekend doubled as the Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Fame celebration, with Colin Murphy, Darcy Way, and Wayne Weller inducted Friday and introduced on the ice Saturday.
Standouts
Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 60 saves on 62 shots, with Friday’s 30-save shutout the fifth of his career and Saturday’s win the 39th. He has started all six games. Luke Shipley, a transfer, scored the tying and winning goals in the third period Saturday, his first two goals as a Husky. Matthew Van Blaricom had a goal and an assist Friday and two assists Saturday.
What changed
Friday, Tech scored first and never trailed while killing a five-minute major. Saturday, the Huskies fell behind 2-1 early in the third and needed a power-play goal and a late winner to recover, the kind of response coach Bill Muckalt had asked for after Friday’s sluggish start. Tech outshot Alaska 39-30 Friday, while Alaska held a 33-32 edge Saturday.
