The Detroit Red Wings (7-6-3) return to Little Caesars Arena on Thursday to host the Vegas Golden Knights (10-5-2) at 7 p.m. on Military Appreciation Night. The game airs on Detroit SportsNet. It is Detroit’s last home game before a four-game road trip that opens Saturday in Colorado.

The biggest question is in goal. John Gibson left Tuesday’s 4-2 loss in Tampa after the first period with a lower-body injury, and coach Todd McLellan had no update afterward. Gibson is listed as day-to-day. On Wednesday the Red Wings recalled Michal Postava from Grand Rapids under emergency conditions and placed defenseman Albert Johansson on injured reserve, retroactive to Oct. 24.

Detroit had not named a starter as of Thursday morning. Daniil Tarasov, who stopped 12 of 13 shots in relief against the Lightning, is 2-1-2 with a 1.74 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage in six appearances. Postava, the AHL’s Goaltender of the Month for October, went 5-0 with a 1.20 GAA and a .955 save percentage for the Griffins and won his only NHL start, a 4-3 shootout decision over Edmonton on Oct. 26.

The Red Wings are also without forwards Marco Kasper and Mason Appleton, whom the team said on Oct. 30 were 10 days to two weeks from returning, and center Dylan Larkin remains suspended while he waits to be traded. Detroit has alternated wins and losses over its last four games, beating Florida 5-3 on Monday before falling in Tampa, where it trailed 3-0 before goals from Lucas Raymond and J.T. Compher. Alex DeBrincat and Raymond lead the team with 16 points each, Viktor Arvidsson has a team-high eight goals, and Moritz Seider leads with 10 assists.

Vegas is playing its third road game in four nights and has taken three of four points on its eastern swing. The Golden Knights lost 3-2 in a shootout at Boston on Monday, then won 3-2 at Pittsburgh on Tuesday when Tomas Hertl scored his second power-play goal of the night with 34.1 seconds left, from a cross-crease pass by Mark Stone. Jack Eichel leads Vegas with 22 points, Stone has a team-high 10 goals, and Mitch Marner has 16 assists. Vegas sits three points behind Edmonton for first in the Pacific Division and is without defenseman Parker Wotherspoon (injured reserve) and forward Victor Olofsson.
