The Muskegon Lumberjacks dropped both games of their weekend series at the Chicago Steel, losing 5-0 on Friday, Oct. 9, and 5-4 on Saturday, Oct. 10. Muskegon is 3-4-0-1 with seven points, and Chicago moved to 4-1-1-0.
The Lumberjacks outshot the Steel in both games, 32-21 on Friday and 35-31 on Saturday, but couldn’t solve Stepan Houdek in the opener. He made 32 saves for his first career USHL shutout as Jason Millet scored twice and Chicago led 4-0 midway through the second. Oscar Westman stopped 14 of 18 before Samuel Doyon-Cataquiz replaced him.
Saturday was a different game. Anthony Thomas-Maroon and Drew Fox, on the power play, staked Muskegon to a 2-0 first-period lead before Chicago scored four times in the second. Maxim Šimko and Gustas Zemaitis brought the Lumberjacks back to 4-4 early in the third, but M.J. Campbell scored off a turnover at 6:45. Doyon-Cataquiz made 26 saves in his start, and Houdek left Saturday’s game injured.
Muskegon returns to Trinity Health Arena to host the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16-17.
