The San Jose Sharks were willing to discuss forwards Filip Bystedt and Igor Chernyshov and defenseman Keaton Verhoeff in trade talks with the Red Wings for Simon Edvinsson, a source told San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng. The report is unconfirmed, and the Red Wings have not announced any trade involving the unsigned defenseman.

Peng’s source did not know which combination of the three was offered, and the report does not say all three were in one package. It adds the first names to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman’s report last week that San Jose made at least one serious offer that Detroit turned down. According to Peng, centers Will Smith and Michael Misa and defenseman Sam Dickinson are not on the table. Peng also noted that Chernyshov, a winger, and Verhoeff, a defenseman, do not match Detroit’s stated wish for a young center as the centerpiece of any return, which may help explain why the Red Wings said no.

Bystedt, 22, is a center the Sharks drafted 27th overall in 2022, and he made his NHL debut last week. Chernyshov, 20, is a left wing in his first full NHL season, and Verhoeff, 18, was the ninth overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. Detroit Sports Nation relayed the report Monday.

Edvinsson, 23, is a restricted free agent whose entry-level contract ended after last season, and PuckPedia lists no new deal. He must sign by Dec. 1 to play in the NHL this season. Interim general manager Shawn Horcoff has said Detroit would prefer to sign him, while Edvinsson has said he would rather be traded. Boston, Nashville, St. Louis, and Seattle have also been linked to him.

Mitten Hockey reported on Oct. 31 that the Sharks had made a serious offer for Edvinsson.
