Grand Rapids Griffins goaltender Michal Postava was named the AHL Goaltender of the Month for October, the league announced Tuesday. Postava, who is under contract with the Detroit Red Wings, went 4-0 in October with a 1.25 goals-against average and a .954 save percentage for the AHL’s top team.

The 24-year-old, a fifth-year pro, allowed more than one goal only once in his four October starts. He was also named the AHL Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 11 after going 2-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .967 save percentage, and he picked up his first AHL regular-season assist on Oct. 11 against the Chicago Wolves.

October also brought Postava’s first NHL action. The Red Wings recalled him under emergency conditions on Oct. 22, and he made his NHL debut in relief that night in Vancouver. Four days later, in his first NHL start, he made 25 saves as Detroit beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in a shootout.

Through five AHL games this season, Postava is 5-0 with a 1.20 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage. He leads the league in save percentage, ranks second in goals-against average, and is tied for the lead in wins. He has not allowed more than three goals in any of his 30 career AHL regular-season games.

The award follows a strong rookie season in Grand Rapids. In 2025-26, Postava went 17-6-0 with four shutouts, a 1.71 goals-against average, and a .937 save percentage, setting franchise single-season records for goals-against average and save percentage. He and Sebastian Cossa shared the Harry “Hap” Holmes Memorial Award for allowing the league’s fewest goals, and Postava started all eight of the Griffins’ Calder Cup Playoff games.

It is the Griffins’ third goaltender of the month award in the past year; Cossa won it for both November and December 2025. Grand Rapids is 8-1-1-1 through 11 games, the third-best start in the franchise’s 31 seasons, and its penalty kill leads the AHL at 93.5%. The Griffins host the Texas Stars on Wednesday and the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday at Van Andel Arena, then visit the Rockford IceHogs on Saturday.
