Freshman Joshua Ravensbergen made a career-high 38 saves, and No. 2 Michigan State held off New Hampshire 2-1 on Saturday night at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H., to earn a split of the weekend series. Mason West and Anthony Romani scored for the Spartans, who improved to 4-1-0 a night after a 1-0 loss in the opener.

How it happened

After being held to 14 shots and no goals on Friday, Michigan State finally solved the Wildcats. West opened the scoring, and Romani doubled the lead with a shot from the right circle, assisted by Thomas Bleyl and Ryker Lee.

New Hampshire pulled within one midway through the third period on a power-play goal by Émile Guité, the freshman who scored the only goal Friday. The Wildcats pushed for the equalizer the rest of the way, but Ravensbergen, who stopped 33 shots in the opener, closed the door.

The win puts coach Adam Nightingale one victory shy of 100 at Michigan State.

What’s next

The Spartans face No. 4 North Dakota in a one-game neutral-site matchup in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 8:07 p.m. Eastern, then return to Munn Ice Arena to host Boston University on Nov. 6-7.
