No. 2 Michigan State (3-0-0) opens a two-game nonconference series at New Hampshire (2-1-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. The teams meet again Saturday at 7 p.m. Both games stream on ESPN+, and the Spartans’ radio call with Scott Moore and Rob Woodward is on MSUSpartans.com and the Michigan State Athletics app.
Michigan State
The Spartans climbed from No. 3 to No. 2 in both national polls this week after beating RIT 5-1 last Saturday, following an opening-weekend sweep at Northern Michigan. It is their second straight road week. Michigan State has scored 16 goals in three games and allowed four.
Anthony Romani leads the way with four goals and seven points, ranking second nationally in both goals and points per game. Defenseman Chase Reid and forward Eric Nilson each have five points, as does Ryker Lee. Freshman goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen, a first-round NHL pick, made 25 saves at RIT, including 15 in the third period, and was named the Big Ten’s Third Star of the Week.
Coach Adam Nightingale is 98-44-11 at Michigan State and needs two wins for 100. He would get there in his 155th game; Ron Mason, the program’s fastest to 100, needed 182. The Spartans carry 17 NHL draft picks, nine of them first-rounders, the most first-round picks of any NCAA roster.
New Hampshire
The Wildcats opened with a 10-1 loss to Quinnipiac, tied Merrimack 3-3 in their Hockey East opener before losing the shootout, and then swept Colgate. Nick Ring and Mason Zebeski lead UNH with three goals apiece, and Ring and Ryan Johnson each have three assists.
Neither team has announced injuries or a starting goaltender for Friday.
