The Red Wings continue their four-game western road trip Saturday night against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome, Detroit’s final scheduled visit to the building before it closes at the end of the 2026-27 season. Puck drop is 10 p.m. Eastern (8 p.m. local).
Detroit is 4-3-3 and has earned a point in six straight games after a 5-2 win in Vancouver on Thursday. Lucas Raymond scored twice in the first period of that game and finished with three points, while William Wallinder and Michael Rasmussen also scored. The Red Wings have won eight straight against Calgary, a run that dates to the 2022-23 season.
Who’s in goal?
That is the biggest question of the night. John Gibson stopped four of five shots through two periods Thursday but did not return for the third with what the team listed as an upper-body injury; coach Todd McLellan said afterward that Gibson had something in his eye and was still being evaluated. Daniil Tarasov is day-to-day and was due to be reassessed Friday. That leaves Michal Postava, recalled from Grand Rapids on an emergency basis, who stopped all seven shots he faced in his NHL debut. RotoWire wrote that a first NHL start for Postava is possible, but Detroit had not named a starter as of Saturday morning.
Elsewhere, Marco Kasper and Mason Appleton remain on injured reserve, and J.T. Compher returned Thursday for his first game since Oct. 4. Simon Edvinsson is still unsigned.
Rookie watch
Michael Brandsegg-Nygard added two assists in Vancouver and has eight points in 10 games, tied with San Jose’s Ivar Stenberg for the NHL rookie scoring lead. He also leads all rookies at plus-10 and leads Detroit with 39 hits after moving into a top-six role.
The Flames
Calgary opened the season with five straight losses but has won three of its last four, beating Carolina 3-2, Minnesota 2-1, and Anaheim 4-2. Goaltender Devin Cooley has been the driving force, making 34 saves against the Hurricanes and 36 against the Wild. Aydar Suniev and Joel Farabee scored first-period power-play goals in the win over Minnesota.
