Rylan Fellinger scored his first goal of the season in overtime to give the Flint Firebirds a 4-3 win over the Barrie Colts on Saturday afternoon at the Dort Financial Center. Martins Klaucans had a goal and two assists, a career high for points, as Flint improved to 10-3-1-0 and won its sixth straight home game. Barrie fell to 3-10-3-0.

How it happened

James Paul opened the scoring early in the first period, his first of the season, cleaning up a rebound after Carter Beauchesne and Klaucans carried the puck into the zone. Beauchesne’s assist was his first OHL point. Klaucans made it 2-0 later in the period, finding a rebound through traffic, before Nicholas Desiderio forced a turnover in front and scored for Barrie ahead of the intermission.

Sebastian Mogull tied it early in the second from Carter Lowe. Jimmy Lombardi put Flint back in front about 30 seconds into the third, redirecting a Darian Anderson shot from the blue line. Mogull answered again on a 5-on-3 power play with a one-timer from the left circle to send the game to overtime. There, Nick Bogas set up Fellinger, who beat Matvei Nikonovich from the right circle for the winner.

Mason Courville was in goal for Flint, a day after Trenten Bennett started in Kitchener. Nikonovich took the loss for Barrie.
