The Red Wings have a new alternate look. Detroit revealed its Hometown Remix jersey on Monday as the NHL and Fanatics launched a leaguewide special-edition uniform, apparel, and headwear program with new designs for all 32 teams.
Detroit’s version puts the winged wheel together with the word “Hockeytown” across the chest and adds bold striping on the sleeves. The detail most fans will hunt for is on the inside: a purple octopus tucked into the hem, a nod to the tradition of fans throwing octopuses onto the ice that dates to the 1952 playoffs.
The league’s description ties the design to the franchise’s Original Six roots, its 100-year history, and its championship banners, calling it “a piece built for the city and the fans.”
When Detroit will wear it
Every NHL club will wear its Hometown Remix uniform several times during the 2026-27 season, according to Fanatics. In all, 261 games will feature one of the new looks, including 19 in which both teams wear their alternates. Florida, Chicago, and San Jose are the first teams scheduled to debut theirs.
Neither the league nor the team has listed which Red Wings games will feature the new jersey. Mitten Hockey will add the dates when Detroit announces them.
Where to buy
Jerseys and related apparel went on sale with Monday’s announcement through NHLShop.com, NHLShop.ca, Fanatics.com, team stores, and the NHL Shop flagship in New York. Prices were not included in the announcement.
The reveal lands on a game day. The Red Wings open a two-game Florida swing against the Panthers in Sunrise on Monday night, part of a stretch of four games in seven nights.
