The Detroit Red Wings (6-4-3) host the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena, the second game of their Hockeytown Halloween weekend and the first of two meetings between the teams this season. It is Detroit’s second game since the team suspended Dylan Larkin without pay while it looks for a trade.

Where things stand

Detroit responded to the Larkin news with a 4-1 win over Chicago on Thursday, its fifth comeback win of the season. Viktor Arvidsson scored a hat trick, Lucas Raymond added a power-play goal, and John Gibson made 18 saves. The Red Wings are 5-1-3 in their last nine games but still sit last in the Atlantic Division, a point out of a playoff spot.

Arvidsson, Alex DeBrincat, and Raymond have combined for 41 points in 13 games. With Larkin out, the forward group leans even harder on that trio.

St. Louis opens a four-game road trip after going 3-2 on a five-game homestand that ended with a 4-1 win over Boston on Thursday. Robert Thomas and Philip Broberg each had a goal and two assists in that game, Jimmy Snuggerud scored his seventh goal of the season, and Joel Hofer made 31 saves. The Blues had been shut out in two straight games before that.

Lineup notes

On Friday, Detroit sent Axel Sandin-Pellikka to Grand Rapids and recalled Jacob Bernard-Docker. Sheldon Dries was recalled Thursday with Larkin out. Albert Johansson was ruled out against Chicago, and Marco Kasper and Mason Appleton were described this week as about two weeks away. Neither team had announced a starting goalie as of Saturday morning. St. Louis sent forward Otto Stenberg to Springfield and is recalling defenseman Theo Lindstein.

Storylines

Jonatan Berggren faces the Red Wings for the first time since St. Louis claimed him off waivers from Detroit last December; he has five points in 13 games. Justin Faulk faces the Blues for the first time since they traded him in March. Dylan Holloway has points in four of his last five games against Detroit. The Red Wings swept last season’s series, outscoring St. Louis 11-6.
