Red Wings assistant general manager Kris Draper was listed on the press box seating chart for Sunday’s game between the Washington Capitals and Minnesota Wild at Capital One Arena, Capitals blog RMNB reported. The Hockey News also reported that Draper, who oversees Detroit’s pro scouting, was scouting the game. Both teams have been linked in reports to suspended center Dylan Larkin. The Red Wings have not commented on Draper’s assignment, and nothing about a Larkin trade has been announced.

It was not Draper’s first look at Washington. RMNB, citing Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, said Draper also attended the Capitals’ 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers last Wednesday. The Hockey News added that he has recently been seen at several Montreal Canadiens games. Pro scouts attend games around the league all season, so a single sighting does not mean a deal is close.

Where the Larkin talks stand

The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun said Oct. 29 that the Capitals had engaged the Red Wings “to some level” on Larkin, though he could not say how hard Washington had pushed, and named 2024 third-round pick Ilya Protas as an obvious target for Detroit. LeBrun has also reported that Minnesota has made multiple offers. Both teams are on Larkin’s 10-team approved trade list, according to published reports.

That list could soon change. Friedman said Saturday night that Larkin could revise it within 24 to 48 hours, and The Hockey News reported that Vegas and Florida are expected to come off. No change had been reported as of late Sunday.

Detroit suspended Larkin without pay last week after his agent said he would not report until he is traded. Interim general manager Shawn Horcoff has said the team will wait for the right deal and wants players who can help right away. The Red Wings head to Florida on Monday, with John Leonard recalled from Grand Rapids to fill out the forward group.
