The CCHA suspended Lake Superior State freshman Raoul Boilard for four games on Wednesday for a check from behind in the Lakers’ Oct. 31 game against Minnesota State. Boilard is eligible to return Dec. 4.

The hit came at 19:01 of the second period and sent Minnesota State junior defenseman Sam Court into the boards. In announcing the ban, the league said it is “committed to eliminating dangerous and unnecessary contact from the game.”

Boilard, a Quebec native, joined the Lakers this season after playing junior hockey for the Cape Breton Eagles of the QMJHL. The New York Rangers selected him in the fourth round of the 2024 NHL Draft, making him one of the more prominent pro prospects on the Sault Ste. Marie roster.

The ruling keeps Boilard out of the Lakers’ lineup for the rest of November, a stretch of CCHA play that will test Lake Superior State’s depth early in the season. He becomes available again in the first week of December.

Supplemental discipline has been a theme across college hockey in the season’s opening weeks. The Big Ten suspended three Notre Dame players earlier this week, and Boston University’s Bednarik sat one game in late October.
