No. 2 Michigan State left Durham, N.H., with a split, losing 1-0 to New Hampshire on Friday before winning 2-1 on Saturday at the Whittemore Center. The Spartans are 4-1-0 after losing their unbeaten record in the opener.

Standouts

Freshman goalie Joshua Ravensbergen was the story of the weekend. He made 33 saves Friday and a career-high 38 on Saturday, allowing just two goals, both on New Hampshire power plays by freshman Émile Guité. Anthony Romani and Mason West supplied Saturday’s goals.

What changed

The Spartans’ offense, one of the nation’s most productive entering the weekend, managed only 14 shots on Friday and could not solve UNH goalie Michael Simpson. On Saturday it broke through twice, enough to survive a late New Hampshire push. The Wildcats controlled the shot count both nights, outshooting Michigan State 34-14 on Friday and putting 39 shots on goal Saturday, a trend coach Adam Nightingale’s team will want to reverse.

What’s next

Nightingale sits one win from 100 at Michigan State heading into a one-game matchup with No. 4 North Dakota in Austin, Texas, on Oct. 31.

Read the recaps: Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24.
