Update (Oct. 29): The Red Wings have confirmed this. Read the latest: Red Wings suspend Dylan Larkin without pay; Horcoff says trade talks continue.

Dylan Larkin is refusing to play for the Red Wings until they trade him. His agent, Pat Brisson, said in a statement Thursday that Larkin will stay out of the lineup until Detroit makes a deal, saying Larkin has had enough of the situation and has been professional and cooperative throughout the process, according to Daily Faceoff. MLive’s Ansar Khan reported that the Red Wings are expected to suspend Larkin without pay until a trade is completed, according to Detroit Sports Nation. The team has not announced a suspension.

Detroit Sports Nation reported that Larkin told the team Wednesday night he would not play until he was traded. That came after he missed Wednesday’s practice, which coach Todd McLellan had called a maintenance day, and Thursday’s optional morning skate. McLellan announced Thursday morning that Larkin would not play against the Chicago Blackhawks and said interim general manager Shawn Horcoff would address the situation. As of Thursday afternoon, Horcoff had not spoken publicly.

Where trade talks stand

League sources told ESPN that Larkin is being held out for trade-related reasons, that his representatives have pushed Detroit to make a deal, and that the Minnesota Wild are among the most aggressive teams pursuing him. TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reported that talks have escalated but cautioned that a deal is not necessarily imminent. He said the Wild have pushed hard, the Washington Capitals do not appear to be a fit, and the Florida Panthers appear to be out of the running. No trade has been announced, and an unverified report Thursday that Larkin had been dealt to the New Jersey Devils has not been confirmed by either team or a major insider.

Larkin, 30, has a full no-trade clause and has approved deals to 10 teams: Minnesota, Florida, Vegas, Dallas, Colorado, Tampa Bay, Washington, Carolina, New Jersey, and Utah. He is in the fourth season of an eight-year, $69.6 million contract with an $8.7 million cap hit and has six points (two goals, four assists) in 10 games this season.
